Yoshizumi Two-in-One Kite Kit: B (Suruga/Buka)
Created by Japanese master kite artist, Nobuhiko Yoshizumi, these inventive kites are made to provide a choice between two traditional Japanese kite forms and are made of washi (Japanese paper), with bamboo spars. You supply your creativity, scissors and white glue. Slightly more complex than the other Japanese kite kits and with a large surface area, (24” x 23 ½”) these kits are perfect for upper level students and artists.
This kite kit will build one kite, choose between a Suruga or Buka.
Recommended Age: 5th grade and up.
Decorations: The simplest method would be to use marker pens, watercolor, ink or collage, (be mindful of the moisture of the glue and build up of the paper layers, let the sail completely dry before applying spars). Try substituting the bond paper for more interesting light weight paper with color or patterns would work. Note: do not increase the weight of the paper, matching the weight of the bond paper supplied is critical to fly this kite successfully.
Ideal wind conditions for this kite: Light ( a flag on a pole is gently moving, not fluttering) to Medium (a flag on a pole is steadily moving, fluttering in the wind).
